Hussam Chakouf

Hussam Chakouf joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 2006 as a junior architect and was promoted to Associate in 2012. He has participated in the design of numerous competition entries and projects such as the Elk Grove Civic Center Master Plan, California, USA, the Sofia Karo Multifunctional Masterplan in Bulgaria and the Business Bay – Signature Towers in Dubai. 

Hussam studied architecture at the University of Damascus where he achieved his Bachelor in Architecture in 2004. He went on to study for his post graduate at the prestigious Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, where he received his Master degree in Housing and Urbanism in 2008.

Currently, Hussam has been involved as a Project Architect on a number of winning design competitions in Russia and China. These include the innovative new hub that will house Sberbank HQ and the Yakaterinburg Concert Hall, both in Moscow and the masterplan for the waterfront regeneration of the Admiral coastal area on the northern part of Russia. As a project associate, Hussam has led the innovative competitition masterplan for the Chongqing Liangjang Collaborative Innovative Zone, in China, a new district that will house a number of high profile tech companies. Hussam has also led a number of high profile projects in Europe and the Middle East. He was team leader for the new building for The People’s Assembly of Syria and worked on the Pierres Vives library and archives centre in Montpellier, France from 2008 until project completion in 2012. Hussam is also the Project Architect for a high profile administrative complex of the government of the republic of Algeria. He is also the Project Architect for the new building of the Iraqi Council of Representatives in Baghdad.
